ABOUT LAKESIDE YOUTH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
In 2009 when Jared McBride was hired as Head Football Coach of the Lakeside Rams, there were three short term goals he set out to accomplish. He wanted Lakeside to host it's first playoff game in school history...that goal was reached when Lakeside hosted the Batesville Pioneers in the opening round of the 2012 playoffs. He wanted to transition the Jr. High from an intramural program, in to a program which scheduled other schools on a regular basis. Lakeside's 7th grade program now plays a full season of Jamboree's with the 8th graders having a full 8 game traveling schedule. His third goal was to establish a youth football program that would allow Lakeside's 4th-6th graders the opportunity to grow up in the Lakeside coaching and philosophy environment, that would eventually help lead Lakeside to it's first State Championship at the Varsity level.
In early 2011, Coach McBride began contacting parents and supporters of Ram Football that shared the same interest in developing a youth football program at Lakeside. A meeting was held where he discussed his thoughts....ideas....and goals for what was to eventually become Lakeside Youth Football Association (LYFA). Everyone in attendance agreed it was time for Lakeside to move forward with youth football and establish a winning tradition at the 4th -6th grade level. Coach McBride along with Coach Richie Arthur attended the annual meeting of a local youth football league that had been in existence for over 25 years and Lakeside was extended an invitation to join the league beginning in the 2011-12 Football season. A Board of Directors was soon formed under the guidance of Coaches McBride and Arthur with representation from each of the 6 LYFA teams along with President Tim Wilson, Vice President Robbie Cox, Secretary David Wooldridge and Treasurer David York. This group began working on a handbook that would outline the core beliefs and responsibilities of every student athlete, coach, parent and sponsor that would be involved with the LYFA organization. Registration began in March of 2011 and ended up with 154 4th-6th grade athletes that both competed and won League Championships in its first year of existence.
